Ty Cwmafan and Ty Nedd are primarily intended to be long term residential homes. We will strive to facilitate the social, emotional, behavioural, personal and academic development of each of the young people placed with us, within a fun, warm, stable, safe yet stimulating and challenging environment, which may be reasonably close to their original home environment, friends and community.
To enable each young person to develop their full potential by acquiring skills, knowledge, understanding and attributes, including personal, academic, social and emotional skills.
To enable young people to become economically, socially and personally active contributing citizens.
To provide sector leading, high quality evidence based services that meet the needs of the local authorities and Welsh national requirements.
Our overarching aim is for each young person to lead a full and enjoyable life to maximise their individual potential, allowing them to become fully functioning, positively contributing members of society.
Our philosophy and principles at Ty Cwmafan and Ty Nedd are founded on:-
-adopting a holistic approach and therefore aim to build close working relationships with families and multi-agency organizations and partners in the community.
-taking an ecological perspective and consequently recognise the importance of the physical environment.
-acknowledging the resilience of individuals – we do not focus ourselves with others perceptions of a young person’s limitations, labels or pathology, but instead focus on their potentials, strengths, interests, abilities, knowledge and capacities.
We firmly believe that everyone has the inherent capacity to learn, grow and change and that the community is a very rich source of high quality resources.
We will provide an environment where our young people will learn to value diversity and equality and to be confident in challenging discrimination in all its forms.
We recognise that young people have a right to self-determination, to feel safe and valued and to be prepared for contributing useful roles in their home and in society. We also respect and adhere fully to principals outlined by the welsh Assembly Government and The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
All our young people will be regularly consulted on all aspects of the home through weekly meetings with staff which will be fully recorded. They will similarly have unrestricted access to the managers. We will also invite them to complete short questionnaires, unanimously if preferred, which will similarly be kept for all to see.
We will encourage and facilitate any young person who wishes to carry out any religious observance. All placements will be subject to regular time critical reviews. The managers and key workers will prepare agreed reports and attend all such meetings. We will also strenuously encourage all our young people to prepare for, attend and fully contribute to their meetings.
We aim to provide a safe, structured and planned nurturing environment in which the young people are able to take control and appropriate levels of responsibility for their lives, decisions and actions, have clear goals and aspirations and to help move them out of crisis, whilst in a safe controlled environment. We aim to prepare them as fully as possible to allow them to successfully leave care and transit into a positive, fully contributing adult life.
